Islam

Islam is a Way of Life...it is a Thought & a Method

La ilaha ila Allahu wahdah Sadaqa w'adah Wa nasara 'abdah Wa a'azza jundahu Wa hazama-l ahzaba wahdah There is no god, but Allah (swt) alone To His promise He has been true His servant He has helped His forces He has strengthened And alone He has destroyed the Confederates

With the month of Ramadhan approaching us, we will soon Insh'Allah (swt) hear these words being uttered by the hundreds of millions of Muslims around the world. The very first time that Muslims read this takbeer was when Muhammad (saw) sent one of his Sahaba (ra), Hudayfah ibn al-Yemen (ra), to get information on the enemy's morale and intentions during the Battle of Khandaq. He brought back the news that on the advice and initiative of Abu Sufyan, the enemy had turned on their heels and fled. The news quickly spread through the Muslim ranks and they recited these words in joy and relief, after having attained victory, in Jihad, over the Kuffar.

The achievements of the Sahabah (ra) and generations of Muslims that followed them, demonstrate to us the necessity of adhering to the Islamic Method (tareeqah) in the execution and fulfillment of the Islamic Thought (fikrah) i.e. there must be a State to execute the solutions that Islam desires to see within society. The fact that Islam dominated over kufr that day was due to the Muslims adherence to the Islamic Method. During the Battle, there was an Islamic State that was used to achieve the fikrah that Islam must dominate. Today, the Muslims have retained the solutions that Islam has provided but have abandoned the Islamic Method of executing them, as there is no Islamic State. So, to the Sahabah (ra) this takbeer had a certain meaning and signified victory for Islam. However, today, there is no State, so the takbeer is recited against a backdrop of foreign nations dominating them. This deficiency can particularly be seen during Ramadhan. Sighting of the moon requires the Method At the beginning of Ramadhan, Muslims are reminded of the absence of the Islamic Method. All Muslims are aware that Ramadhan commences with the sighting of the moon of Ramadhan, furthermore, they are also aware that there is only one moon. This is a fikrah that Islam requires. Yet every year, almost without fail, these very same Muslims start fasting on different days and hence celebrate Eid on different days. While the act of seeing the moon, which is the correct Islamic fikrah, is appreciated by all, the Muslims are not aware of the Method that is required to execute it in the correct manner. The Islamic Method, which is to have a sole decision making entity, the Khaleefah, is not adhered to. It is this Khaleefah who would be charged with the responsibility of validating the moon-sighting, through judges that he would appoint, adopting on it and then announcing it to the entire Ummah. This was how for centuries Muslims began and ended their fasts together (practically within each region), avoiding the grievous sin of missing fasts, or fasting on the day of Eid. The consequence of the absence of the Method is that the Muslims start the fast of Ramadhan and celebrate Eid on different days. In a recent example at the time of Eid, Jordan and Syria were both manoeuvring in a competition to see which regime held favour amongst Muslims around the world. Consequently, there were two different days of Eid. Neither Jordan nor Syria are Islamic States. So, this confusion can be seen to be a consequence of adopting other than the Islamic Method to declare Eid. As they are nationalist, Capitalist nations, they do not see the Islamic Lands as one Land, nor do they see the Islamic Ummah as one Ummah. So even though there is one moon two Eids were declared. The Method by which the Muslims are unified through fasting has been destroyed. Instead we have States that are based on the secular, Capitalist Method. Therefore, Eid is relegated to a mere public holiday. The Method of Fasting Another reminder is in the case of Muslims who do not fast during Ramadhan, in spite of having no Shari'ah permission not to. This is in spite of the fact that fasting is a fikrah that Islam has prescribed. So, sincere Muslims must watch others eating during the day. In some countries within the Islamic Lands these Muslims even drink alcohol. This only occurs as there is no tareeqah present today to account these people and punish them if appropriate. Rather the Capitalist tareeqah would not wish to see other than this violation in society. For it believes in 'Freedom of Religion'. Therefore, there is no reason for them to prevent the Muslims from disobeying Allah (swt), let alone close down the pubs and 'duty free shops' that are seen throughout Islamic Lands. This second flagrant violation of the Islamic fikrah again occurs due to the absence of the Islamic Method and the implementation of the Capitalist Method is found in its place in the Islamic Lands. Islamic State is the vehicle to call to Islam. From all of the above it can be seen that the execution of any action is composed of two aspects. The first being the solution sought, the fikrah, and the second being the execution by the State, the tareeqah. The reason that Muslims face so many violations of Islamic thoughts is that there is no Islamic Method to endorse and bring them about. Rather they are assaulted by the Capitalist Method that exists throughout the Islamic Lands. Muslims are made to feel this fact repeatedly as they try to hold on desperately to the Islamic Thoughts. One of the Thoughts in particular however is not felt by many Muslims. Many Muslims have forgotten this fikrah let alone the Method of executing it. This fikrah is that it is an obligation to call to Islam as a way of life to the whole of humankind, fikrah. The following hadith provides a clear indication of what many Muslims have forgotten. Bukhari and Muslim reported on the authority of Jabir ibn 'Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, ''I have been granted upon five things which were not granted to any other Prophet before me: I have gained victory with awe from the period of one month; the earth has been made pure and mosque for me, so whenever the time of prayer comes for anyone of you, he should pray wherever he likes; the spoils of war have been made lawful for me, and these were never made lawful to anyone before; I have been granted shafa'a (intercession); and every prophet was sent particularly to his own people, whereas I have been sent to all mankind.'' As Muslims we must remember that our beloved Prophet (saw) was not like any other Prophet (as). He (saw) was sent to the whole of humankind, rather than for a particular people.  It is high time again that we as Muslims reclaim our rightful role and duty and continue where the previous generations of Muslims left off, by re-establishing the Islamic tareeqah. And seek again that which the Prophet (saw) informed us of, ''Gibreel brought me a vision of the earth, its easts and its wests. The authority of the Ummah extended over all of it.''
